ACPA Names Atlantic Coast Region Engineer
(Water&WastesDigest.com) – Industry veteran brings sales & training experience to new role at Concrete Pipe Association
The American Concrete Pipe Assn. (ACPA) has appointed Walter Catlett, P.E., to the new position of Atlantic Coast region engineer, effective immediately.
In his new position with the ACPA, Catlett is responsible for the marketing and engineering of precast concrete products in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
“I have attended the ACPA’s short courses for years and have gotten to know several of the professionals in the organization throughout my tenure at Hanson,” said Catlett. “The ACPA serves a critical role in uniting our industry, combining its assets and knowledge base and representing our products before important constituencies with integrity and professionalism. I’m proud to be a part of this organization and I look forward to working with our members in the Atlantic Coast region for years to come.”
Prior to joining the ACPA, Catlett spent 14 years as a sales manager/regional engineer for Hanson Pipe and Precast in Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Mississippi, where he was responsible for the sales, engineering and marketing of precast concrete products.
Catlett recently created classes on accelerated bridge construction with an emphasis on Prefabricated Bridge Elements and Systems (PBES) as well as Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil-Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS). He is knowledgeable on NPDES Phase II requirements and has written several Stormwater Management Manuals for MS4s.
Catlett has also served on the Arkansas State Highway Commission’s Transportation Research Advisory Council since 2007. He has written, produced, and presented installation classes through the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.
“I don’t think we could have asked for anyone with better credentials for this position than Walt,” said Matt Childs, president of the ACPA. “Walt is an engineer’s engineer, and he has a true gift for teaching. I believe he’ll be a tremendous asset to the ACPA and to our members in the Virginia, Maryland, and DC area. I’m glad he’s on our team.”
Catlett will work closely with concrete pipe industry professionals throughout the region to educate and develop relationships with the leaders of the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Maryland Department of Transportation as well as key personnel at the Federal Highway Administration and AASHTO. Like his counterparts in other regions, Catlett will bring the ACPA’s industry-leading resources to bear in the areas of marketing, sales presentations, specification-setting, and product research to make the case for wider use of concrete pipe and box culvert products.
“I have always taken a positive approach to teaching and selling, rather than focusing on the competition’s weaknesses,” said Catlett. “We have a great story to tell about precast concrete products, so that certainly helps. We also have plenty of room for market share growth in the Atlantic region, and I look forward to helping our members achieve their goals.”
