The ACPA Names Steven Hawkins as New President

Headshot-Steve-Hawkins-2021-Press-Release-e1641421831947Irving, Texas – January 6, 2022 – The American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA) is excited to announce that Steven Hawkins, AIA, CSI, has been named its new president. The appointment came after an extensive nationwide search and has been approved by the ACPA Board of Directors.

“Steve is an excellent choice to continue the strong momentum the ACPA has gained over the last few years,” says Branimir Kovac, ACPA Chairman of the Board. “His innovative approach, experience leading and advancing other organizations, and his forward-thinking mindset will prove integral to the success of our producing and associate members.”

Hawkins has more than 20 years of serving in leadership roles in the concrete reinforcement industry, with the most recent as the Director of Marketing and Membership at the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) in Chantilly, VA. Throughout Hawkins’ career, he has led teams, developed market plans, increased membership growth and engagement, and helped members show the value of their products in the market. These opportunities will provide Hawkins with the leadership skills and experiences to help the ACPA’s producing members grow their market share.

“I am thrilled to be joining the ACPA,” says Hawkins. “Seeing its vision of growth, the support and buy-in from its members, the involvement of its committees, and the talent of the supporting staff is inspiring. I look forward to spending time listening to the industry stakeholders regarding what can be done and what actions we can take to continue to influence and build a more resilient and sustainable future with our products.”

Before joining the ICPI, Hawkins was Director of Market Development at Applied Systems Associates and the Vice President and Marketing Director at the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI). In these roles, he successfully led teams that helped increase organizational awareness and impact through the execution of market plans and leveraging new technologies.

Hawkins has a B.A. in Architecture, an M.A. in Communications Studies from the University of Kansas, and an Executive MBA from Johns Hopkins University. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), and the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS).

“I’ve been fortunate to work with and learn from prominent leaders in engineering design, construction management, and other industry associations over the years,” says Hawkins. “These collaborations will provide valuable context to our shared mission of market share growth for concrete drainage and sanitary products. The industry has challenges to meet and opportunities to seize in areas like leveraging new technologies, improving workforce development, research, safety, and contributing to carbon-neutrality goals. All of these are better served with a proactive and member-driven industry association, and I look forward to helping the ACPA seek these as well.”

Hawkins began serving as president effective January 3, 2022.
